There is no reason that we can’t do both.
And making somebody else Captain America or Thor has more elemental power in the world—it is of more immediate interest to more people—than creating Thunder Girl and Black Flag.
New characters rarely take root to a large degree. To this day, the most important players in the Marvel Universe were primarily created during the 60’s.
Creating new characters with the same social impact is extremely hard. Captain America is a role a person takes on, and should not be locked down to any one person. The role is also not a white character. Rogers needs to take a break from the part every once in a while as the story calls for it. The main qualifier as I see it, as the person is an American. Sam fits the bill with shining colors.I would also have no problem with Shang-Chi being replaced as the Master of Kung-Fu with the right story.
I wasn’t reading comics at the time, did people get this angry when Cap was replaced with a former Soviet murderer?
